FOUNDER'S STORY
UrbanWatt was founded to accelerate the transition to sustainable urban logistics. Light-EVs (LEVs) have the potential to transform city transport, but without the right infrastructure, their adoption is limited. Our intelligent charging systems and fleet management technology make this shift effortless - ensuring urban logistics is not just cleaner, but smarter and more cost-effective.
My background positioned me well to tackle this problem. I began my career in sales and marketing at 18, gaining firsthand experience in commercial strategy before returning to university to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Excelling in my field, I completed internships at Rolls-Royce, graduated among the top of my cohort, and was awarded the President’s Doctoral Scholarship - an honour given to only 3% of PhD candidates at the University of Manchester. Now, as a researcher in Wireless Power Transfer, I apply my expertise to bridge the infrastructure gap preventing businesses from unlocking the full potential of LEVs.
The inspiration for UrbanWatt came in 2023 while volunteering in Kigali, Rwanda. Beyond the culture, food, and hospitality, I was struck by the seamless integration of urban infrastructure with the country’s breathtaking natural landscape. Yet, beneath this harmony, a critical challenge stood out - Kigali’s roads were filled with motorbikes, the backbone of the country’s mobility, but electric alternatives were nearly non-existent. Conversations with locals revealed the reason: a lack of charging infrastructure.
This sparked a fundamental question: how can cities transition to sustainable transport without the infrastructure to support it? More specifically, how can commercial operators of LEVs fully benefit from their capabilities without the right charging systems in place? The challenge is clear: if LEVs are to truly revolutionise urban mobility, simple, sustainable and scalable charging must come first.
That is what UrbanWatt is here to provide!
